JEWELRY MAKING FOR TEENS

This fun, fast paced, after school class will show teens how to create artful jewelry of their own design. Students will learn basic jewelrymaking skills including: wire manipulation, sawing, piercing, annealing, soldering, stone setting and polishing. Students will plan their own original jewelry designs and will learn the practical skills needed to execute those designs into finished jewelry pieces.
$240 for members / $265 for nonmembers

GLASS FUSING FOR TEENS

This kiln-fired glass class design for teens will cover the basics of planning, cutting and firing to create fun glass projects like masks, critters, jewelry and tableware. Tools supplies and sources will also be covered as well as many different techniques.

Teens in this fun introductory weekend class will learn how to make artful handmade jewelry. Students will fashion a signet ring on the first day and a dome ring on the second day each made of sterling silver. Topics covered will include: jewelry design, how to use files, emory, sawing and soldering along with basic studio safety procedures.

MILLEFIORI PATTERNS IN POLYMER CLAY

Similar to how sushi or fruit roll ups are made, students in this fun class will use various colors of polymer clay to create Murrini canes, colorful multi-colored rods. These canes or rolls of various patterns can be sliced to create multiple images just like sushi rolls. This technique can then be incorporated into creating beads, vessels and, sculptures and more; and then fired for permanence and strength. The group will be using polymer clay for the class, but the instructor will also demonstrate how these techniques originated in glass.

TURNING FOR TEENS

Come discover turning wood on the lathe in this intensive one-day class designed for teens who want to learn how to turn. The class is limited to six students to provide maximum support. Topics covered will include: lathe safety and operation, basic turning tool selection and sharpening, wood preparation and turning skills. Through a series of turning exercises each student will turn a few small items to take home. Join the fun!

The Good Forge/Brookfield Campus
Students ages thirteen and over will learn the basics of working with coal and gas forges and a variety of basic blacksmithing techniques including; cutting, twisting and punching. Students will be able to produce several small forged iron projects including: hooks, fireplace pokers or broom handles. Various safety procedures and tool usage issues will also be covered.

MAKE YOUR OWN ZEN GARDEN

Free your imagination as sand and stones are transformed into your own personal landscape. The gardens are inspired by famous sand and rock gardens from around the world. Your Zen garden will bring peace and harmony and melt away stress. Students will prepare the board, build a stone wall, and even make a wooden raking tool for their garden. They will design a space to create circles, swirls, straight lines and "footprints" in the sand. Wander through your garden - relax and enjoy.

Teens in this unique class will take discarded books and learn to transform them into sculptural works of art. Topics covered will include: how to apply the techniques used in scrapbooking to other artwork, how to tear and remove pages for new designs, how to incorporate photos and mementos into framed blocks of pages to make a photo window plus much more. Paper techniques such as glazing and lining pages will also be shown. Bring an old book, favorite photos and memorabilia along with your imagination to this fun creative class.

designed specially for teens will provide an introduction
into sculpting glass rods over an oxy/propane torch to create
exciting small scale glass sculptures. Using borosilicate
glass rods, students will learn the basics of creating small
sculptures as well as marbles, pendants and glass components
for larger sculptures or jewelry.

Pen turning is an enjoyable way to get started
using a lathe. This class for teens will teach all the basic
techniques to creating your own slim line wood pen. You will
leave with a unique writing instrument that you created yourself.
The instructor will show how to align the grain, square the
ends, turn the wood, apply a finish and assemble the parts.
