Spring 2008
PAPIER MACHE
Sat./Sun. (10am-4pm) May 3 - 4
Lanette Barber
#PA2608
Brookfield Campus
Paper has its true beginnings in nature with the wasp and its origins by mankind in China around 105 A.D. It is an amazing invention. It’s commonality in the world for some 2000 years leaves us forgetting the array of possibilities it lends as an arts & crafts medium. This two-day class will focus on papier mache pulp and sheet paper with a focus on form. Most every medium can be used for sculpture, but it is the challenge the material poses that sets each apart. Using this simple material the group will approach building forms via demonstrations and hands-on work. Students will create sculptural forms using wire armatures and constructed forms or pre-made structures. The results can be used for figures, mobiles, lampshades, wall pieces, freestanding table sculpture and much more.
