WORKING WITH GOLD

Sat./Sun. (10am-4pm) May 24 - 25
Lessley Burke
#ME4208
Brookfield Campus

This class is for students who have spent time working with and soldering silver, copper and brass, who want to finally make that jump into that most precious of metals: gold. Students will spend two days exploring how gold is both similar to and dissimilar from its sister metals, silver and copper. Students will learn the different working properties of karat golds and how to work with them, both with hand tools and soldering. With the price of gold being so high, there is not only a jump in knowledge and skill required to work with gold, but also a psychological barrier to overcome. This class is designed to teach experienced students the idiosyncrasies of gold and overcome the fear factor. Students must be experienced with basic hand tools and must know how to solder for this intermediate class. Students will be required to bring their own metal and solder. A conversation with the instructor is highly recommended before purchasing gold.
