SCULPTING ON THE TORCH

Flame working, lamp working, torch working, call it what you
like, this four week class will provide an introduction to
working with glass over an oxy/propane flame to melt and shape
rods of clear and colored glass to create exciting sculpture
and jewelry. Students will learn how to make small marbles,
turtles, fish and more. The basics of using glass rods, frits
and tubing will all be covered. All levels are welcome.
$375 for members / $400 for non-members

WEARABLE ART: GLASS PENDANTS MINI WORKSHOP

Pendants are all about creating exciting fashion statements.
This workshop will explore various styles of "off the
mandrel" glass jewelry elements. The group will work
with powders, frits, rods and dichroic glass. Some basic finishing
techniques will be also provided for creating wearable artwork
in only three hours. All levels of experience are welcome.

This two-day hands-on introduction to glassblowing is geared
for anyone interested in the medium from the absolute beginner
to the advanced blower. Six students will work with the instructor
and his apprentices to learn all aspects of glass blowing
in his state-of-the-art studio which has been producing art
glass for more than 30 years. The studio has a 350lb furnace,
two glory holes and 4 annealers. All materials and color tools
be provided for a materials fee of $150 payable to the instructor.
Students may pick up their work the day after as it needs
to be annealed. Register early, there are only six spaces
in each class!

FUSED GLASS FANTASIES

This six week morning class open to anyone regardless of experience
in kiln fired glass, will provide a step-by-step review of
many different techniques of fusing. The group will work with
a variety of glass, enamels and molds, and will experiment
using other natural materials and etching. The various tools
and products used in the medium will also be explained and
reviewed. Students will come away with a working knowledge
of basic principles plus several small finished projects including
bowls and other pieces.

LAMPWORK BASICS

Find out what all the excitement surrounding lampworking is
really about in this intensive two day introductory workshop.
Students will work with torches to melt glass and will learn
how to create unique, colorful glass beads of their own design.
Many decorating techniques will be demonstrated and discussed
including: frits, foils, feathering, flowers and more. No
previous experience is required.

All fused glass friends of Brookfield Craft Center are invited
to participate in this special cooperative effort to help
create bowls for our BowlFest 2007 celebration. Volunteers
will design bowls using different techniques & glass and
Linda will fire and mold them. All work produced will benefit
this year's festive fund raising event on Sunday, June 1st.
Sign up is on a first-come-first-serve basis and is limited
to 8 people in each session. Join in the fun and help support
our education programs.
Tuition is free for our members & friends.

COMBING HOT GLASS

Combing glass is similar to combing cake icing only the temperature
is much hotter. Glasses, color, contrast, and setting up a
combing will be explored while a kiln heats for a demo in
combing hot glass. Examples will be shown and options discussed.
Firing and annealing will also be covered.

KILN CASTING GLASS

Kiln casting is the process of using an electric kiln to melt
glass in or into a heat resistant mold. The mold can hold
the glass till it melts or have a container drop melting glass
into a mold. Student will make molds for pate-de-verre (glass
particles) and one sided molds. Several different methods
of filling or dropping glass into different molds will be
demonstrated. Mold materials and glass used will be provided
as well as the firing of several pieces. Different methods
of patterns bars will also be covered along with a demonstration
of two part molds.

FROM ORCHIDS TO ROSES

April showers bring May flowers! This unique two day class
will show students how to create small flowers using borosilicate
glass. The flowers produced can then be made into pendants,
pins or beads. A variety of lampwork techniques will be used
in making these flowers. Some previous glass experience is
recommended.

Torchwork Intensive

The art of shaping glass over a flame is something that does
take time and practice to master. This intensive week-long
immersion in glass will focus on the basics with plenty of
time to expand upon your skills using color and size. Students
will primarily use borosilicate (Pyrex) glass rods to create
a variety of small sculptural projects. All levels are welcome
and encouraged to come with lots of ideas and enthusiasm.
$615 for members, $640 for nonmembers

HOT GLASS CASTING

This special glass casting workshop will involve creating
molds from sand and other various materials, and pouring molten
glass into the molds using a ladles and direct crucible pouring.
Various colors can be added to achieve many different effects.
The finished castings can then be cold worked by: sand blasting,
cutting, etc. The cold working will take place on the second
day after with work is annealed. A materials fee of $170 is
payable to the instructor during the class. Register early,
there are only six spaces in this class!

COLOR EXPLORATIONS

Advanced beginners and intermediate beadmakers will benefit
from this intensive weekend torch work class which will focus
on using combinations of metals and powders for unusual tones
and blends of colors. Topics covered will include: overlays,
reduction, blown shards and other techniques and ways to experiment
with glass color. New brands of soft glass will be used in
addition to Morretti rod. Students are encouraged to bring
examples of their glass bead lampwork to share with the group.

FUSED GLASS WITH PMC

Students in this unique two-day workshop will learn how to
combine Precious Metal Clay and fused glass. This wonderful
new material, PMC, is silver clay which can be manipulated,
rolled and textured, then fired. Students will also learn
how to make a bezel and integrate dichroic glass into their
work. The group will learn the basics of both PMC and glass
fusing in this fun and exciting class.
