WALL & FLOOR
DECORATION IN EARLY AMERICAN HOMES

This six week class will present students
with an overview of appropriate surface decoration for homes
in the style of the early 18th to mid 19th centuries. Hands
on instruction will cover techniques including color mixing
and surface preparation. Practice boards will be provided.
The class will also focus on how to find the best source material
and adapt it for your own designs. Decoration for walls will
include: stenciling, freehand repeat patterns, murals and
panel painting. Floor painting designs will include using
stencils and how to lay out a geometrically patterned floor
using painters tape. The group will also explore techniques
involving spattering and fanciful graining and marbleizing.
Students are encouraged to bring their own source material
and project ideas.
$350 for members / $375 for nonmembers

WHIMSICAL PAINTED
FURNITURE FOR CHILDREN

Decorative painted furniture, which is very
popular in today’s decor is particularly suitable for
children’s rooms. Students in this two day workshop
will be introduced to a variety of techniques that may be
employed to create whimsical and useful works of art for children’s
rooms. The possibilities are endless and include: tables,
chairs, dressers and more, each of which can be transformed
by stenciling, graining, combing, sponging, using patterns
and color combinations or even imagery from your favorite
children’s books from Beatrix Potter to Harry Potter.
The instructor will contact students prior to class with information
on how to prepare their furniture for painting.
$240 for members / $265 for non-members

RUFUS PORTER MURALS

Murals can transform a room, expanding spaces
through the light and depth of the imagery. This practical
two-day workshop will focus on landscape murals with an emphasis
on the style of 18th century itinerant painter, Rufus Porter.
Students will have an opportunity to practice techniques specific
to various pictorial elements including: stylized trees, houses,
boats and other period subject matter. The group will work
on sample boards before completing their finished paintings
on 2ft. by 3ft. prepared boards. Topics covered will include:
composition, scaling up drawings for transfer to walls (and
to their prepared boards), paint application, color mixing
plus other skills essential to the successful execution of
landscape murals. A choice of designs will be provided, and
students are encouraged to bring their own designs and ideas.
